Dr Rathin Roy joins CPR as Senior Visiting Fellow

The Centre for Policy Research (CPR) is delighted to welcome Dr Rathin Roy who joins as Senior Visiting Fellow.

Rathin is Managing Director (Research and Policy) at the Overseas Development Institute (ODI). He was formerly the Director and CEO of the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP) in New Delhi. He has previously worked as an Economic Diplomat and Policy Advisor at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with postings in London, New York, Kathmandu and Brasilia. He has also served as an Economic Adviser with the Thirteenth Finance Commission, New Delhi, in the rank of Joint Secretary to the Government of India.

Amongst India's leading economists, Rathin has repeatedly pushed the boundaries of conventional frameworks on the economy, provoking new policy thinking. CPR is excited for the opportunity to draw on his experience and expertise, to strengthen our Economic Policy research and in particular our work on public finance, as we seek to contribute to debates on identifying pathways out of the economic slowdown and placing India firmly on a new growth trajectory."  

Rathin holds a Ph.D and an M.Phil in Economics from the University of Cambridge, an MA in Economics from the Jawaharlal Nehru University and BA (Hons) in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi. He has taught at the Universities of Manchester and London
