Review Committee of Educational Statistics Vol 1. (Sathyam Committee Report)

Ministry of Human Resource and Development

2008

This extensive report explores the recommendations made by various committees to reform the overall system of educational statistic through a unified system, i.e. DISE, better use of modern technology (like MIS and a Unified Data Capture Format) and using a child tracking system (CTS) with a unique ID for every child. CTS was designed to ensure the success of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. The report also lays down some guidelines for data collection, scrutiny and compilation at the local level and the role of Cluster Resource Center (CRC) heads, District Education Officer (DEO), head teachers and members of the School Management Committees (SMCs). The report makes a case for District Information System for Education (DISE) as the only database on education for uniformity and disbanding of the Special Educational Statistics (SES). It also includes financial norms to strengthen data collection and conduct them in a timely manner.
