Last month, actor Richa Chadha was under attack on social media from a motley mix of right-wing commentators, some retired military officers, BJP supporters and a few ‘nationalist’ journalists. Her crime: “insulting the army” by highlighting the contradiction in the media playing up the northern army commander’s belligerent statement that the army is ready to take back Pakistan-occupied Kashmir whenever ordered by the political leadership, even as the same media asked no questions about the Chinese soldiers that remain in control of Indian territory since the past 30 months in eastern Ladakh in the same command.
