We are delighted to announce that the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh has appointed Professor Philippe Cullet, Senior Visiting Fellow at CPR, as a Member of Group of Experts on Madhya Pradesh Water Strategy.
The Group of Experts is tasked with putting together a water strategy for the state of Madhya Pradesh. Among the tasks assigned to the Group of Experts, Cullet is most closely associated with the drafting of the proposed Madhya Pradesh Right to Water (Conservation Sustainable Use) Act.
Cullet has actively worked on water law and governance with a particular focus on groundwater, drinking water and sanitation. His recent book, Groundwater and Climate Change – Multi-Level Law and Policy Perspectives (Routledge, 2019), co-edited with Raya Marina Stephan, undertakes a scholarly assessment of the state of the art of law and policy perspectives on groundwater and climate change at the international, regional and national levels. As part of CPR’s policy compendium, Policy Challenges 2019-2024, Cullet highlighted the need for enabling legislations to protect water while providing water to all. Previously, he has been particularly involved in the drafting of the National Water Framework Law, and the re-drafting of the Model Bill for Conservation Protection and Regulation of Groundwater, 2011.
