Submissions in response to the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019

READ THE SUBMISSIONS BY THE TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY INITIATIVE

During the Winter Session of 2019 of the Parliament, the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019 was introduced. Following the introduction, the bill was referred to a Joint Select Committee, which comprised of 20 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 members from the Rajya Sabha.

The Joint Select Committee, which is currently deliberating the proposed Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019 had invited comments from the stakeholders, civil society organisations and individuals on the Bill till February 25th.

The Technology and Society Initiative at CPR made submissions to the Joint Select Committee, which is chaired by Meenakshi Lekhi, Member of Parliament. The purpose of these submissions before the committee is to present for its consideration, certain fundamental issues with some of the policy choices and specific provisions in the Bill.
