Speaker’s Biography:

Professor Richard Higgott was appointed Vice Chancellor of Murdoch University in August 2011.  Prior to that he was Winthrop Professor at the University of Western Australia and Professor of International Political Economy at the University of Warwick where he also served as Pro Vice Chancellor for Research between 2007 and 2011.

At Warwick he was Foundation Director of the UK ESRC Centre for the Study of Globalisation and Regionalisation following earlier career appointments as Professor of Government at the University of Manchester and Professor of Public Policy  at the Australian National University.  Whilst at ANU he served as Director of Graduate Studies in Foreign Affairs and Trade and for several years as National Director of the Australian Institute of International Affairs.

He was inaugural holder of the Asia Chair at the Fondation Nationals des Sciences Politiques in Paris, a member of the Council for Asia-Europe Cooperation, the Australian Minister for Trade’s Negotiations Advisory Group and a Council Member and Principal Policy Adviser to the Royal Institute of International Affairs at Chatham House.  From 2004 to 2011 he directed two multi-million euro EU Framework 6 and 7 Networks of Excellence.  Author/editor of some 20 volumes and 150 papers he continues to serve as an editor of The Pacific Review.
