Talk on Political Judgement by Prof. Sanjay RupareliaSanjay Ruparelia earned his PhD in Politics from Cambridge University. He holds a joint appointment in the Bachelor’s Program and the Political Science department at the New School for Social Research. Dr. Ruparelia’s areas of research and teaching span democratic theory, philosophies of explanation, comparative politics, political economy of development and modern South Asia. His present work focuses on the dynamics of economic liberalization, Hindu nationalism, and the rise of historically subordinate groups in contemporary Indian democracy. Dr. Ruparelia’s research has been supported by awards from the Commonwealth Foundation and the universities of Cambridge, Yale and Columbia. He has published in Comparative Politics, Economic and Political Weekly, and in edited scholarly volumes. He occasionally acts as a consultant to international and non-governmental organizations regarding international development, and as a media commentator on contemporary Indian politics.
