The COP27 summit at Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt closed on November 20 with a breakthrough agreement to provide loss and damage funding to support vulnerable countries hit by climate disasters. At the same time, mitigation remained a hotly contested topic, with active discussion on language such as phasing down all fossil fuels.
To understand what succeeded, what didn’t, and what is next for global climate negotiations, join the COP27 debrief by the Centre for Policy Research on November 23, 5:30 PM IST. Speakers will present their understanding of the key decisions made in Egypt, and an interpretation of what they mean for the future of climate action and for Indian climate diplomacy and policy.

Richa Sharma is Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of India. She is a 1994 batch IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre.
Sunita Narain is a Delhi-based environmentalist and author. She is the Director General of Center for Science and Environment (CSE) and Editor of the fortnightly magazine, Down To Earth.
Harjeet Singh is the head of global political strategy at the Climate Action Network International. He is a member of the United Nations’ Technical Expert Group on Comprehensive Risk Management (TEG-CRM) under Warsaw International Mechanism for loss and damage.
Navroz K. Dubash is Professor at the Centre for Policy Research and an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, NUS. He was a Coordinating Lead Author for the Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
