Delhi has become over the past two decades a laboratory of participative experiences (partly because the last two Chief ministers have placed participation at the centre of their politics, although they have defined participation differently). On the basis of the study of four types of participatory dispositives/procedures (wards committees, Bhagidari workshops, jan sunwais and mohalla sabhas) implemented in the capital city, the talk will reflect on the relationship of these participatory practices with urban democracy.
Stéphanie Tawa Lama-Rewal is a research fellow (political science) in the Centre for South Asian Studies (CNRS-EHESS), Paris. She studies the evolving forms of urban democracy in India. She has recently published “Political Representation in India: Enlarging the Perspective”, India Review, vol.15, n°2, 2016, pp. 163-171.
