The report presents data on the state of education in India for the gae-group 5-24. Focusing on elementary education, some highlights are:
* In terms of distribution of students of age group 5-24 by level of education, 53% were at the primary level (highest on the country)
* The gross attendance ratio based on age and net attendance was high for classes I-V (6-10) but decreased as ut moved on to classes VI-VIII or 11-13 age group
* Most primary school children attend govt schools (36.3%)
* 77% proportion of primary school students getting free education and an avergae of Rs. 501 is the per capita private expenditure on primary level
