Twenty Point Programme (TPP)

The Programme was restructured based on the Twenty Point Programme (TPP) 1986 and the programmes and schemes under TPP-2006 were in harmony with the priorities contained in the National Common Minimum Programme (NCP), the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Social Charter. The basic objective of the 20-Point Programme is to eradicate poverty and to improve the quality of life of the poor and the underprivileged population of the country. The programme covers various socioeconomic aspects like poverty, employment, education, housing, health, agriculture and land reforms, irrigation, drinking water, protection and empowerment of weaker sections, consumer protection, environment etc. In terms of education, it specifically aimed for education for all and child welfare by universalising of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme and allowing for state-level variation.
