The report presents the progress against the key targets of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) to asses which goals have been met in terms of enrolment, retention and quality of education. With girls’ education as a focus point, it suggests National Program for Education of Girls at the Elementary Level (NPEGEL) and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) to improve enrolments. It lauds the progress made in infrastructure of schools, increase in the number of teachers, and based on the low enrolments of disadvantaged children including girls and low levels of achievement, recommends measures such as setting indicators for measuring learning, disparate interventions for curriculum/textbook revision, teacher training, on-site academic support, student evaluation and school monitoring and supervision.
