About the Discussion:
In ‘Making Sense of Indian Democracy’, author Yogendra Yadav provides a deep insight into the trajectory of India’s first republic, lasting from 1950-2019. The book is a collection of essays written by Yadav over the past three decades covering several elements of India’s democratic system. The book also touches on the theme of ‘reform’ and ‘action’ and clearly lays out what must be done to reclaim the soul of the Indian republic.
Coming at a time of heightened public discourse around the state of democracy, this book provides us an opportunity to debate and discuss the future of the Indian republic.

The CPR and Lokniti-CSDS ‘Conversations on Indian Democracy’ is a series of events that aims to make academic research more accessible to the general public. As institutions of high academic repute, CPR and Lokniti-CSDS have been at the helm of significant research about policy and politics in India.
