About the talk
River Yamuna or Kalindi is not only the most important tributary of the mighty River Ganga, but also has a standing on her own. It flows almost parallel to Ganga before merging with Ganga at Prayagraj. It is a river steeped with mythological and historical events, but has been facing existential crisis in recent years. Its 22 km stretch of Delhi witnesses its deadly phase – dark stagnant water for most part of the year. Many attempts were made to rejuvenate and revive it. The Yamuna Action Plan did not deliver expected results. The recently elected new government in Delhi has given top priority to cleaning and conservation of Yamuna. Can Yamuna be revived? How?
Mr. Asok Kumar will engage with the idea of reviving River Yamuna building on his rich experience of leading the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG).
