National Workshop on ‘Energy and Environment Modelling by WRI-India and CPR in partnership with MoEFCC’

Date and Time

October 29, 2018

9:30 am to 5:00 pm

Location

India Habitat Centre - Gulmohar, New Delhi

The usage of energy and economic models to inform India’s climate and energy policy is on the rise. Researchers are using models to identify pathways to a low-carbon economy and assess policies that will help India meet its development, environmental and climate goals.

This workshop will bring together energy and environment modellers, policy makers, researchers and practitioners to discuss how models can better inform Indian climate and energy policy. It will include discussions on the latest developments in India’s climate and energy modelling – such as linkages with air pollution, characterising fast changing demand patterns and portraying sub-national energy systems – and how modellers and policy-makers can co-ordinate to address India’s development, energy and mitigation needs.

The workshop will open with the launch of the Energy Policy Simulator developed by Energy Innovation LLC, WRI India and Open Climate Network. This will be followed by moderated panel discussions on thematic questions on climate and energy modelling in India: 1) sustainable development linkages, 2) demand-side modelling, 3) managing uncertainty, and 4) translating to subnational levels.
