About the Discussion:

India’s statistical system enjoyed a formidable reputation among scholars across the world. This story has changed dramatically in the last decade: from its enviable position, India’s statistical integrity has fallen drastically, leading to a brewing credibility crisis. The government is now in crisis-management mode, with urgent plans to reinvigorate the National Statistical Commission already underway. This presents us with an opportune moment for trying to comprehend the convoluted systemic underbelly of centrally presented data in the country.

This panel will discuss recent trends on the subject and share perceptive insights into what ails India’s statistical system.
