About the Talk
Professor Jon Dorschner will analyse the changes in both the form and content of US foreign policy during the presidency of Donald J Trump and compare and contrast it with those of the previous administrations. He will in particular discuss Trump’s India policy and how it fits into America’s larger South Asia policy (including Afghanistan), and its impact on US diplomacy in the subcontinent.
About the Speaker
Dr Jon P Dorschner is a professor of Political Science at the Center for Government and Public Policy, University of Arizona, Tucson. From 1983 until 2011, he was a career diplomat. His career specialties were internal politics and political/military affairs. Dr Dorschner served in Germany, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, the United States Military Academy at West Point and Washington. From 2003-2007 he headed the Internal Politics Unit at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, India. In 2007-2008. He completed a one-year assignment on an Italian Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Tallil, Iraq, and from 2009-2011 served as an Economic Officer in the US Embassy in Berlin, Germany. He has contributed to the 2011 reference work – ‘Inside a US Embassy: Diplomacy at Work’ published by the US Foreign Service Association, and is the author of ‘In the Clear Light of Day’ and ‘My Indian Journey’.
Professor Bharat Karnad of the Centre for Policy Research has recently published his newest book, ‘Staggering Forward: Narendra Modi and India’s Global Ambition’.
