Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi and Arghyam Trust, Bangalore are jointly organizing a three-day Felicitation conference in honour of Prof. Ramaswmy R. Iyer on the theme “Water Sector in India: A Critical Engagement”. The conference is scheduled for 25-27 November 2013 in New Delhi at India International Centre and India Habitat Centre respectively.

As you are aware, Prof. Ramaswamy Iyer, formerly Secretary, Water Resources, in the Government of India, was the principal architect of India’s first National Water Policy published in 1987. He joined as Research Professor at the Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi, after his retirement from the Government of India and continues to be with it even now in an honorary capacity. He held several high level positions and served as a member of several high level committees. Prof. Ramaswamy Iyer contributed a great deal as an academic, particularly in the field of water and environment. His research contributions by way of presentations, papers and books on water have generated keen interest and debates in India and abroad. Therefore, it is only fitting that we all join together to celebrate and acknowledge the work and contributions of Prof. Iyer to the development sector in general and water sector in particular. We could use this opportunity to take the water sector discourse in India at least one step further keeping equity, sustainability, productivity, efficiency and democratisation as core values.

The conference would try to cover all important dimensions of and issues around Water-Environment-Development in India.

A detailed programme agenda is attached.
