Be it forex or food, having a war chest helps in difficult times

Accumulating large reserves of forex and food has helped India immensely. There is a cost to stockpiling — but that is similar to spending on defence and a standing army, and its utility is proven only in times of economic crises or war. The country, however, remains vulnerable to uncertainties around the third ‘F’: fuel.
