“From Green to Evergreen Revolution: Remembering Dr. M.S. Swaminathan” looks at the critical ingredients and strategy that transformed India from a ship-to-mouth importer of foodgrains to a country capable of feeding its people, including during the Covid-induced crisis. It also highlights the limitations of the strategy, particularly the diminishing crop yield response to increased nutrient and water use, and a possible way forward to conserve the gains of the Green Revolution and turning it – in Dr Swaminathan’s own words – into an Evergreen Revolution
