Barathi Nakkeeran

RESEARCH CONSULTANT

Barathi Nakkeeran is a research consultant with the Urban Initiative Team at Centre for Policy Research, where her work focuses on urban governance transformations in India under the Government of India’s Smart Cities Mission.

Barathi graduated from National Law University Jodhpur with a B.A., LL.B degree in 2016. Subsequently, she worked with Trilegal, Mumbai with their capital markets team. In 2020, she graduated from Ambedkar University Delhi with an M.A in Gender Studies, and has since worked with the Centre for Women’s Development Studies, Centre de Sciences Humaines, and the George Institute (The ARISE Hub – Accountability and Responsiveness in Informal Settlements for Equity).

Her research and writing interests lie at the intersections of marginality, urbanism, citizenship, and informal labour issues. Her writing has appeared or is forthcoming in the Economic and Political Weekly, the Hindu, Down to Earth, Health Research Policy and Systems, the LSE Review of Books, the Journal of International Affairs, the Chicago Review of Books, and others.
