Gokunath is a Research Associate at the State Capacity Initiative at CPR. He is currently engaged with projects on understanding the moral economy of bureaucracy. In particular, he is doing ethnographic research on the lekhpal in Uttar Pradesh to understand the revenue department’s frontline functionary. He is also working on collating and analysing successful initiatives by Indian administration. In addition, he is also a part of the Accountability Initiative’s Delhi education project, wherein the team has been studying the Aam Aadmi Party government’s attempts to transform school education in the capital .
Prior to joining CPR, he finished his M Phil in Social Anthropology, from the University of Cambridge. He was also employed as a Teaching Assistant at Shiv Nadar University, for the department of Sociology. He has an undergraduate degree in English literature, with a minor in Sociology from Shiv Nadar University.
