The SHRAMIC Initiative was a multi-stakeholder project that brought together academia and NGOs to study migration related issues. The goal of the initiative was to improve our understanding of the extent and nature of migration in India as well as to suggest evidence based policy prescriptions for protection of the rights of migrants. Through the close interaction between academia and NGOs, and building upon the knowledge of both sets of partners, the project generated domain expertise and collated an important online resource, accessible at http://www.shram.org/. The SHRAMIC initiative was led by the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) and partnered by CPR, National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA), IRIS Knowledge Foundation (IRIS-KF), NGO partners supported by Tata Trusts, and many independent researchers concerned with the issue of migration.
