
Bharat Patel is the Research Lead with the Environmental Justice Program in Gujarat. His work focuses on understanding the implementation of environment regulation in coastal areas of the state, with a focus on Kutch, Saurashtra and South Gujarat.
Prior to working with CPR, he has conceptualized and implemented a direct marketing system for artisanal fishing communities in Mundra district of Gujarat which involved creating a self-sustaining model for information kiosks for fishing communities. He has authored two book chapters- on his experience of holding international financial institutions accountable for practices that cause environmental harms and also on how workers undergo and survive marginalization, respectively.
Bharat has a PhD from Gujarat Vidyapith, in which he researched the effects of new fishing technologies on fishing communities, and has served as General Secretary for a fish workers ’ rights association.
