Bharat Patel | Research Lead - Gujarat

Dr. Bharat Patel works as a Research Lead - Gujarat with the CPR-Namati Environmental Justice Program in Gujarat.

He has worked to mobilise and raise the voices of fishing communities against coastal industrialization, and has fought for their rights in local courts as well as through international advocacy. He has conceptualized and implemented the first direct marketing system for fisherfolk in India (Mundra, Gujarat) and helped create a self-sustaining model for information kiosks for fishing communities. Bharat has a PhD, in which he researched the effects of new fishing technologies on fishing communities, and has served as General Secretary for a fishworkers’ rights association.
